The Texas Real Estate Teachers Association (TRETA) held their 35th annual conference in Galveston, TX on April 28-30.  The attendees were provided with National and Texas economic statistical information and forecasts along with real estate legal updates affecting residential and commercial sales and leasing.  This broad base of information for real estate teachers, educators, and trainers certainly elevated the quality of education for current and future real estate students.  "At the end of the day, the objective of this conference was to provide useful and important information that will promote and enhance professionalism for the real estate industry serving consumers in the great state of Texas," said Mr. Jerry Rutledge, president, Alliance Academy , and conference program chairman.

How many time have you logged on the TREC website only to see that the system is unavailable or a message stating that your current records are not up to date?  As an instructor who frequently uses this site, the reliability has been "spotty" at best for the past six months.

Needless to say, I was encouraged by the press release on March 4, stating that current system has received a major "facelift".  According to the TREC, after two prior attempts to connect, the new T1 line was successfully installed on February 28th.  Software technicians have made the necessary adjustments and the new system is now operating at double the previous bandwidth.

I applaud Administrator Douglas Oldmixon for his leadership, oversight, and his commitment to improving TREC's online and web services.

The Texas Real Estate Commission on February 14, 2011 revised several voluntary contracts with a mandatory use date of March 1. The voluntary contracts were originally issued on November 15, 2010. Real estate professionals must realize that the latest change removes the new Paragraph 15B, which provided a time period for asserting a claim for specific performance, and returns Paragraph 15 to the way it existed prior to the adoption of the new contracts.
The affected contracts are:

TAR 1601: One to Four Family Residential Contract (Resale)
TAR 1603: New Home Contract (Incomplete Construction)
TAR 1604: New Home Contract (Completed Construction)
TAR 1605: Residential Condominium Contract
TAR 1607: Unimproved Property Contract
TAR 1701: Farm and Ranch Contract

Agents are reminded that contracts which were entered into using versions of these forms dated Nov. 15, 2010; do not need to be rewritten. However agents should take note they are using the Feb. 14, 2011, versions of these forms for all future contracts.
